Mediated Dialogue

John Marks has used the following protocol in his Search for Common Ground.

Person A speaks. Person B listens and feeds back what (s)he heard before speaking. Then, after B speaks, A has to mirror back what B said, to B's satisfaction. Then A can speak.

They go back and forth like this several times.

They seek to clarify their differences AND to find things they agree on. For example, pro-life and pro-choice leaders have agreed to work together on pregnancy prevention and adoption services.
