Voices of the Emerging Movement for Conscious Evolution
July-August 2006

We are pleased to report that on June 15th the Unity in Marin Trustees voted unanimously to make the Universe Story in Practice an official group of Unity in Marin. We are grateful for their support and enthusiasm for the program. Our thanks especially to Medora Gordon and Jeanne Sutter for their guidance over the past year. -- Tamara and Bill

"ORIGINS - Fourteen Billion Years of Cosmic Evolution"
We will watch and discuss this NOVA program over several sessions. Narrated by Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, the program provides a clear timeline of how we got here - our origins. This would be an excellent series of programs for newcomers to get a solid grounding in the new creation story. Part 1: "Back to the beginning". Consider bringing friends who might be interested.
Saturday evening, July 29, Mt. Tamalpais, 8:30 pm
"The Tenth Planet and Beyond"
Dr. Eugene Chiang from UC Berkeley will present this program at the amphitheater on top of Mt. Tam which will be followed by looking through telescopes at the nearest stars and planets. Since 1992, astronomers have discovered over 1,000 icy, rocky objects beyond Neptune, one larger than Pluto. What is known about this "Kuiper Belt" of bodies and what are the implications for the formation of our planetary system? Come join us under the stars to hear this program. More details to come.

On June 4, Bill Carney conducted a walk with Betty Moseley, Colleen Porter, Donn Davy, Ella Evers Meinardi, Trish Maas and Tamra Peters. We learned how human creativity is changing both land and people during the conversion of Hamilton from military to civil use. We saw the area that is being restored to wetlands, learned about the community created at Hamilton from residents Donn and Trish, and talked about what role Unity In Marin might play as part of the Hamilton community. The walk concluded with Bill's poem (below), which moves through church, military and natural uses -- as the universe continues to unfold around us and through us.
Base Chapel Conversion
by William Carney 6/4/06
Above the altar now the perfect implication of wholeness:
half a dome, one quarter of the interior of a sphere:
"go inward" to the one round source
(close your eyes, go oceanic, noticing deepening silence,
womb from which all flows):Remember there the cumulative sermons
of 40 years of military Sundays:
and always the air filled with planes,
coming and going, patrolling, transporting, training, always
that slow drone above to tell us why
we're here, remind us
of the mission, define
in variable high trajectories & decibels
the shape of sky.Hear now silence return,
the air strip slip into the tides.
Lean forward into this:
far off there is a dawn where we can walk,
and rising all around us into air, cacophonous,
long wintering flocks wheel out their wide formations
and set north again, rounded cargos clutched within,
quietly expectant of distant spring.

Remember, you
are a creation of the universe,
nowhere duplicated ever before or ever again.
Touch the cosmic source of your own creativity
and let it shine.
